The Man

Did anyone else see John McCain on the Today Show this morning? Katie Couric was gone for some reason, so it was bearable to watch.

Though Big Mac did skirt a few questions before answering them outright, he answered all of them pretty honestly. Issues dealt with:

- Decline of the U.S. in popularity around the world under Bush's watch
- Kerry on defense (decidedly not weak)
- Not running for vice-president, and not running as part of a Democratic ticket

He also spent a good deal of time criticizing both campaigns for their mounting negativity, citing a desire to see more voters at the polls this year. It's so nice to hear somebody with a political ass to protect actually put honest opinions out there. Kind of makes me want to move to Arizona now. Actually, I wonder what we could do about getting him to move to Tennessee. Now you're talking.

He also mentioned himself as a member of the "party of Abraham Lincoln and Theordore Roosevelt." Now, I know both of those presidents are served up in the collective memory with a healthy dose of nostalgia, but weren't they also responsible for a couple of the more misguided wars in our national history? Not that I am complaining about their respective outcomes, nor do I think they were eveil men, but I never have been a big fan of a war as a means of keeping a country together...that's more of a British thing.

For the record, however, I think McCain would make one hell of a president.
